fire safety video tulsaOne important aspect of life safety education is instructing children to know exactly what to do in the event of a fire or another emergency. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has developed a website – http://sparkyschoolhouse.org/ – designed especially to assist parents and teachers to educate children about fire safety through games, fun activities, downloadable apps, and even music videos.
Recently, the NFPA put two new music videos on the Sparky School House website that teaches children what to do if a smoke alarm sounds.
In the music video, “Little Rosalie,” children are taught four critical steps to follow when they hear a smoke alarm as they watch a young girl and her brother follow these steps to escape. This video features Public Broadcasting System (PBS) personality Steve Rosnolek of “SteveSongs,” fireengineering.com reported. This video is mainly designed for kids in grades pre-K to first.
The second video, “What’s That Sound,” teaches children about fire safety and smoke alarms as the video’s characters travel on flying smoke alarms. With an assortment of catchy music and dance moves from hip-hop to country, children are reminded to quickly leave a building when the fire alarm sounds. Top-ranking Seattle children’s band, Recess Monkey, performs in this video, fireengineering.com noted. This video is designed more for children in grades 2-3.
The videos are on SchoolTube, a K-12 moderated video sharing platform for students and educators, and on YouTube.
“Where Fire Safety Connects with Learning” is the tagline for the NFPA instructional website and as that emphasizes, it’s important for children to know exactly what to do in the event of a fire. Families need to have a fire escape plan with a designated area away from the home where everyone can safely meet.
